Well folks... I think it's setting in... the nesting phase! :)

I have my first shower in SIX weeks in God's country... the beautiful state of Kentucky. So I finally realized that it was probably time to register - plus where have the last four months gone??? It's weird to think how close we are to the third trimester! With twins - we're to the halfway mark! I've loved LOVED LOVED getting advice and emails from mama's with twins - especially those with mono-di babies! It's amazing because it has really helped me to develop realistic expectations but at the same realize that all of these mamas ended up with healthy happy babies! Their journeys were each so very different but all of them are happily surviving the joys of mothering twins. It's been really encouraging to know that although our birthing experience could look different from most births, that's ok! Different isn't bad - it's just different! It's also been encouraging to hear about the mono-di mamas who carried until 36+ weeks! That has been my prayer this week, that the Lord will allow us to make it to 35/36 weeks.

It's also been helpful to develop a timeline for prepping for the babies to come home - most of the mamas of mono-di's that i know have ALL suggested to get the nursery/nesting done as soon as possible (a) because mid-way through the 3rd trimester I'm going to be an exhausted, uncomfortable blimp in a pool with my cankles elevated or (b) you  just never know when these little girls are going to make their appearance once we hit that 24 week mark. So this week, yes... during finals week... I've been knocking out the planning phase for the girls and I feel good about the progress we've made!

Friends in the RDU area - first off - you NEED to know about this sale. The Babies R Us off of Capital is moving and is getting RID of all of their stock. Over the next few weeks their sale is going to be getting better and better (according to their manager). I went on Wed. after a final and picked up TEN outfits and 6 hair thingamajigs for only  $30. All of it was marked down and then had an additional %40 off! Then Thursday night the Mister and I went back to pick up some furniture from our grandparents (THANK YOU!!!!!!!) and the clothing sale had already increased to %50 off. The nice manager lady told me it was only going to get better with time... So... all that to say - if you have kiddos in the RDU area... it's worth the trip. They have a lot of 12-36 mo. items as well.

So at the end of this week... we have our furniture, a rough draft registry at Babies R Us and Amazon, and I'm working on the bedding situation.  Seriously - HUGE thanks to all of the mamas out there who contributed to creating a list for what we'd need. Again, you mamas of twins have been a HUGE blessing. I plan on compiling a list of registering advice that I've received and then updating it after (way after... like months after) the twins come just so other future mamas of twins can use it as a resource.

Ahhhhh... the bedding situation. I'm seriously debating on attempting to make our own. I found an adorable bedding set at Pottery Barn Kids, but I also love the idea of making something special for them. The mister is a little worried that  won't have the time or energy to finish TWO crib bumpers, multiple sets of sheets, and two skirts... but I like the idea of the challenge. I also like that I would be contributing to the room rather than just purchasing it all. Plus, I think if I can even just conquer the bumpers - I could always purchase some matching sheets - right??? Am I crazy??? I don't know... I found some shops on Etsy that will make them for you as well... so if I get overwhelmed and only finish one I could have a back up plan.  Thoughts?

Here are the photos for my inspiration for the room. I got them via Pinterest or Etsy - all photo credits can be found on the links on my Pinterest Board.

This first one is my room inspiration photo. I love the wall color, the stripes, and the hanging fabric pom poms... and of course the pink/grey is awesome.

This lil beauty I found on Etsy at  this fun lil shop.  You can pick the colors of the butterflies to fit your room - but again... look at those grey walls with the pink. It just makes me happy.

And.... here are the fabric options that I adore if I were to make my own...

Just look at all these together.

And regardless of whether they get a whole room of it or not... I'm definitely making the girls a minky blanket like this on that I also found in another store on Etsy.

When I told you I was in full planning mode... I was NOT kidding. ;)

SOOOOOOO all that to say - these next few weeks are going to be exciting!!! I can't dive into sewing really until I finish teaching - JUNE 7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY! But if we do opt to go that route - I might start some small projects - like fitted crib sheets -  and just work on them an hr. or two a night - we'll see. :)

We see the babies again on Monday & I'm pumped!!! It's only been 9 days... but I'm ready to see them again. Happy weekend!

Much love to you all...

Crazy times

So some of you have been asking what I've been up to other than just hanging out with my babies over the past few weeks/months... and I think that's a fair question! Hopefully the babies won't overtake the entire blog once they get here... even though let's all be honest... they're going to be making a lot of appearances. But still... I'm hoping to maintain some sort of normalcy eventually.

Anyways... what have I been up to other than hanging out by the toilet or staring at ultrasound pics? Well... the good news is... I've been able to do a lot more thanks to my good friend Zophran . I still get sick, but have been throwing up less so that drug has been really helpful.  I went for my first walk last week and that was pretty darn exciting. Seriously... it was a big accomplishment... all of you runner friends don't laugh at me. I also started student teaching last week so I'm now at a local middle school from 7-3 everyday and then I'm taking my grad. classes in the evenings - so that's taking up a HUGE chunk of my time.

I have NOT been cooking as I believe most food (other than fruit) is from the devil these days, so my pinterest activity when it comes to recipes is suffering... but have no fear I've found another board to shift my pinning energy:

And I went ahead and made a cute lil outfit for our sweet friend Eve (Caitlin and Carson's precious girl). Pillowcase dress? Yes please and thank you...

Also... something else that's been taking up some of the Salmon's time... if you're in Raleigh you're NOT going to want to miss the Summit Church's Good Friday Choir Concert. Seriously yall... I'm not just saying it because I'm biased... but for real... it's legit. You're not going to want to miss it. The concert's cost is $5 and ALL proceeds goes to an after school program for at risk youth that our church is involved in. The concert times are 6pm and 7:30pm and if you want tickets... Let me know and I can get my hands on some (if we don't sell out soon). Also... you should know that the Mister has a solo so you should come hear the handsome fella sing...

Also I am now a member of TMOTT (Triangle Mother of Twins and Triplets). It's an organization that serves mothers of multiples in the triangle area... WHO KNEW these things existed? Anyways, they have a HUGE consignment sale twice a year and one of them just happened to be this past weekend! :) So the Mil and I went in search of a car seat friendly tandem double stroller (BOB running strollers aren't made to carry TWO infant car seats at a time... so I'm going to have to have TWO strollers... a BOB for running and one for when they're in infant car seats... BOOOOHISSS BOB. BOOOOOOO).  WARNING: Please ignore the disheveled look... It was after 7 in the evening and any of you who have carried twins know that being out after 7 is a miracle in and of itself.

But LOOK!!! Two car seats and a double stroller!! We got it for a steal so I was PUMPED. I definitely stood out as a "newbie" to the club as I did have a fireman come up and inform me that their station offers free car seat installation... Something about me dropping a car seat or not knowing how to work anything might have given it away. My b.

Anyways... that's what's going on in our world...

much love!

I've realized that I break down the year into three seasons of time: Jan-April = Winter/New Year/Spring

May-Aug = Summer

Sept-Dec = Fall/Holidays.

I categorize them this way because at the beginning of these "seasons," I usually spend a little time reflecting on what's coming up, what needs to get done, and personal growth. This isn't like an appointment I have with myself, it just seems to happen naturally over a period of weeks during the start of a new "season." Anyways, as I've been reflecting this month I realized that I'm not great at prioritizing. Actually, that's not true. I'm great at making priorities, the problem is that some of my priorities are in conflict with other priorities in my life.

Let me explain -

One great example is running. I really like to exercise and stay fit and that is one item that always is on my "list" of priorities, but it seems that other priorities seem to trump that in the heat of the moment. For example, I'll make a plan to exercise at night once I'm done with classes - but then The Mister comes home from work (and he is also a priority ;)) and I really want to hang out with him, eat a nice meal, & rest before I have to go to bed and get up and do it all over again. So he comes home, one thing leads to another and my Garmin watch and shoes are left lonely. One thing is certain, I ran a heck of a lot more before the Mister came into my life. That is a fact. :)

Or another example is accomplishing my school work thoroughly. I'm great at turning in assignments, but making sure that I've thoroughly finished all of the reading is more of the problem. I'll be at a coffee shop studying, & a friend will come in and I prioritize being relational over being a good student and then I end up chatting for the next 2 hrs and my reading gets pushed to the side.

I guess I'm looking ahead at the next few months and am trying to figure out how to accomplish my goals! I just feel like many of them are in conflict with one another and are competing for my attention. Now... I don't have kids - and I realize that all you mothers out there are like "You don't even know what's coming... your life is easy!! Wait til you have goals and muchkins running around competing for your attention!" And I hear you! You're absolutely right - so I really want to master this life lesson now before life gets even more busy!

Anyways, would love to hear your thoughts/suggestions on creating plans/priorities and how you accomplish all of your goals! Hope this new season is a good one for each of you!

Happy Hump Day!

Much love,

ps... Tomorrow I'm heading to KENTUCKY to see my sweet nephews and I can barely wait!!! AHG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Look at the fun blankets I made for the sweet boys! :) Snuggle time with Crazy Aunt B in T minus 36 hrs!!!
