Savannah Training
Well we're off! We're less than 5 months away until the Rock N' Roll Marathon in Savannah, GA.
I can't stinking wait... CAN'T WAIT.
So this past week a good friend of mine, Kelly, finished teaching for the year and we started up our summer running routine. :) It felt so good to have a running partner again! I don't know about you, but I feel like I hit more walls when I run alone so it is SO NICE to have a friend beside me to drag me out of bed in the morning challenge and push me.
I was reading The Hungry Runner Girl the other day and was totally identifying! After my May 1 marathon, I pretty much couldn't move and just stopped running for a few weeks. When I tried to pick it back up again I felt so SLOW, sluggish, and my lungs felt like they had never run a day in their life! I was like... "Just a few weeks ago you finished a marathon... WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU???!!!!" I was so frustrated and felt so defeated.
But one of the reasons that I love running is because I can always see constant improvement. Even if I fall off of the horse for a few weeks and then have to start from ground zero, after a week of sticking with it I'm finding my lungs are keeping up with my legs again. It's easy to track improvement and strive for new goals. The new goals might be smaller than I like, but hey... it's improvement!
Speaking of new goals...
In all of my previous halfs and fulls, my goals have been to finish. Every now and then I'd try to shoot for 2:00 half, but overall, nothing too crazy. I just wanted to complete the race. This time, I definitely want to pick up my pace a bit and add in some strength training. So after my runs this week I've been doing a little more work on toning and strength training. And by doing more strength training I mean I bought a couple $5 Jillian Michael's dvds and have been playing the Your Shape Fitness Evolved on the Kinect. Ha, don't you judge me! I work up a sweat like none other and you should hear the magical voice on the Kinect telling me "You're out of rhythm... squat lower... keep your arms in the air..." It's amazing. :) We'll see how that goes.
But seriously, my abs hurt.
Now I have a question for you:
Do any of y'all know of any great running blogs? I only read 2 and am looking to expand my reads on the running bloggosphere. :)
