Baltimore or Bust.

baltimoreSo every couple needs a getaway weekend every now and then. Am I right? But for real... it. was. time. Don't get me wrong, the Mister and I are SUPER fortunate to have a group of family and friends who watch the girls for us when we need a quick date night... but there is something about leaving for a WHOLE night or two that is just so rejuvenating! So this mama and papa peaced out for a few days and did a lil exploring in the great city of Baltimore. I don't know what I was expecting... but Baltimore definitely surpassed my expectations. WOW - that Harbor is beautiful!!

So I brought my big fancy camera along and took a whopping 0.0 pictures. Disappointing. I know. But thanks to our fancy phones we captured our trip with Instagram and the Vine.

Side Note: I'm not sure if you're familiar with the Vine or not... but it's a video app a lot like instagram, but with videos instead of pics.  I'm becoming semi-obsessed with it... so you should probably just download the app and join in on the fun.  And evidently you can embed VINE videos now into your blog... but my blog won't let me. :( So if you want to see them... you'll just have to click the hyperlinks.  ;)

So back to the trip... I will say that we had one minor hiccup during our trip... and that was the hotel that I booked. I may or may not have booked the cheapest hotel I could find AND it may or may not have been a complete bust. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the MISTER!!! We've come to celebrate!!! In a hotel with holes in the sheets, no air conditioning, and rust on the towels!!! yikes. In my defense, their website happened to leave off those few minor details. In fact, the pics and description looked beautiful... Le sigh. Needless to say, we only stayed there 1 night and then found a different hotel the next night. :) Whoopsies. My B. But no worries... that didn't stop us from having fun.

We had a BLAST just exploring the Inner Harbor & walking around. We got to visit with some sweet friends who just moved to Baltimore to start a church plant - they are awesome people and I adore them. It was so refreshing to get to walk around their neighborhood and see their new life and home. I love being able to picture where they live now!

And then after we said goodbye to our friends, we just explored the city the rest of the time. We took a speedboat tour of the Harbor, ate at fabulous restaurants (ok, but for real... Miss Shirley's... O.M.G. DELICIOUS)...

Foodie

Are you drooling yet? HELLO french toast cinnamon rolls...WHAT?!  GLORY. Hallelujah. and Amen.

Then on our last day, it was a little rainy so we visited the Aquarium. WHICH I LOVED. Ok but for real... Put me in a room with Dolphins... and I'm going to have a sea cow. I was in heaven. I think I took a dozen pics/videos. I am SO fascinated by marine life. It's an incredibly intriguing world and every time I go to Sea World or an aquarium, I get the sudden desire to become a dolphin trainer (like everyone else there) and then I realize how much I did NOT enjoy science in school... and so going through four years of science classes just so I could hug a dolphin isn't the most rational idea. So I just opt to beg the Mister to take me to one of those "Swim with the dolphins" trips instead. It's going to happen people... it's going to happen.

But for real, Baltimore was a beautiful city, but this mama was READY to come back and see my girls. I thoroughly enjoyed a few days away alone with my best friend, but a few days was plenty... I think I was about to knock over the folks in front of me on the airplane while we were waiting to get off. Upon seeing PIL at the car, I said a quick hi and then TAKE ME TO MY BABIES. Please and Thank you. It was a happy reunion for sure.

Alright... babies are waking up from their naps... so this mama's gotta bust a move, but that's our Baltimore trip in a nutshell! Go there sometime. It's awesome.

Much love to you all,

Robinson

I have the habit of beating a dead horse when it comes to music (& food). I get a song or band that I like and then I play it... and play it some more... and then a bit more... and then months go by and I realize that I should move on from my obsession but it's too late so I play it some more... And you get the picture. Really... in high school Damien Rice's "O" CD just gave out on me. It literally died. I killed it from being played too much. So I bought a new one and listened to it non stop for another entire semester. Like literally, it didn't leave the CD player in my car. The same could be said of Gavin DeGraw's latest album last fall. Was in my car for 3 months... on repeat. If it wasn't for a Christmas music intervention, it'd probably still be in there. Anyways, this cycle really causes me to get into a musical rut sometimes. Fortunately, I married the Mister who is great at introducing me to new artists. He's been keeping me on my musical toes these past two years and I can appreciate it. Lord knows my iPod does. And I don't only have him to thank, but I also have his musical friends. Robinson is a band based out of Nashville with a winning combination of The Mister's friends. Seriously, hysterically funny guys. All this time I just thought they were funny and BAM they move to Nashville and release an EP. They're funny AND talented. And ladies... a few of them are single... just saying.

Laura over at Meet Virginia did a stellar review of the fellas work and I would encourage you to check it out, as well as her blog! It's a fav of mine! And I agree with Laura. If you like Mumford & Sons, the Avett Brothers, etc. you'll most likely LOVE Robinson.

Here's a little video to give you an idea of their feel:

These guys really are awesome. But as an added bonus it really is grassroots at this point. And let's all be honest, everyone loves to love the band before they become "THE BAND." It's like the ultimate bragging rights in the music industry. Well here's your shot to jump on board, because this band is going places. I keep waiting for their song I'll be Fine to pop up on a Grey's or Parenthood episode. LOVE IT.

So all that to say... give 'em a listen. Buy their EP. Follow them on Twitter. & get ready to be hooked. My iPod is already getting angry with me for the amount of times I've listened to them... Fortunately we just got Taylor Swift's new album and I've been blasting that in the mini this past week. So Robinson's been given a brief break before I go back to playing them on repeat.

Enjoy!

PS. No worries, you'll see the twins in their Halloween costumes on Photo Friday - I haven't forsaken you. :)

A Pinterest Craft and Recipe

Alright people... I tried a new pinterest craft and recipe last week while the parental units were in raleigh with me and the mister. The thing about Pinterest is that although it's AWESOME - sometimes you never know how a recipe or craft might actually turn out. I've made a few recipes and then at the end of dinner, the Mister and I just look at each other and agree that it's not worth making again. :) So I thought I'd share these two pins because they are GREAT - and if I can do them... anyone can.

We'll start with the recipe because it is AMAZING. So last Thursday night, we had dinner at our place for my parents, inlaws, and then the Mister's bro and gf. First off, have I mentioned how much I love the fact that my inlaws and my family get along so well???? No... well I do. :)

So for dessert I wanted something light, healthy, but sweet and refreshing. Alas, Pinterest delivered (and Thank you McKinzey for the pin)...

Yes... That is Pineapple Sorbet served in a pineapple shell. So I went to the original recipe, followed her instructions (the one without the ice cream attachment), and made a double batch. I have to say... a double batch barely served 8 people (we had zero leftovers...) so beware. But with the first half of the batch, I did only pineapple and had it displayed in one half of the pineapple. But the second half, I decided to add in some frozen strawberries to the blend and made a pineapple strawberry sorbet and displayed it in the other half of the pineapple. I have to say - what I wasn't prepared for was HOW frozen it would be coming out - not smooth at all. We actually had to stick it in the microwave to thaw it out, but after a few minutes it was PERFECT. After that, I served a scoop of each in lil' juice glasses and it was delicious. A perfect summer recipe that mainly consists of fruit that I plan on using again!

Ok... Craft time.

I saw these beauties on pinterest when I just found out I was preggers.

And ever since then... I've wanted to make them for Noel and Felicity's room. So while ma and mil were around last week we tackled these bad boys. You'll have to wait til later this week (or maybe next week) to see the final pics of the room... but this craft turned out awesome.

We made a few adjustments to the original instructions. We changed (1) size of balls and (2) we used styrofoam balls instead. But just like the blogger stated... this craft project takes a LOT of time. If my mom and mil weren't here... I'm not sure HOW long it would've taken me solo. Here's a photo of the beginning...

And here's a pic of the end result:

Alright, as you're reading this... I'm at the lake relaxing... so I'm going to get back to that now! But I just wanted to share a few things off of Pinterest that have worked for our home! :) Go to Pinterest and check 'em out!

Much love,
